The City of Pierre, Community Food Banks of South Dakota and Wal-Mart have partnered to establish an 8,000-square-foot food bank in the Pierre-Fort Pierre area. This facility will distribute both perishable and non-perishable food items to charitable organizations throughout central South Dakota. It will also help eliminate hunger among those in need. Funding has been secured for the facility’s ongoing operations, a refrigerated vehicle and some of the other essential equipment. The only major task that remains is securing funding for a warehouse facility – an estimated $650,000 item!

Raising the necessary funds to establish this facility will require a coordinated effort among all of the recipient communities. The following is a brief summary of this exciting project.
